Since its start Spiritism faced much opposition from skeptics and the sacerdotal establishment.  Its opponents engaged in sundry tactics to try and repress its rise in popularity.


Many were vociferous opponents who shouted absurdities to ward off adherents by engaging in fear mongering.  Others attacked the doctrine by writing essays and articles that were entirely aimed at discrediting Allan Kardec and his Spiritist Society.
